Project narrative

On September 3, 2021, the Jiangmen City Government from China’s Guangdong Province donated 3 garbage trucks and 200 garbage bins to Honiara City Council (HCC) in order to address challenge of garbage disposal faced by local residents. China’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Li Ming, and the Mayor of Honiara, Eddie Siapu, attended the handover ceremony. The handover ceremony took place at the Honiara City Council Head office in Honiara. The trucks were also referred to as "compactor vehicles".
