Project narrative

On June 7, 2017, on an official state trip to Kazakhstan, President Xi Jinping and former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in which China agreed to provide a supercomputer system to Kazakhstan. On September 10, 2019, on another state visit, the two leaders issued a joint statement in which China specified the donation: the supercomputer is worth RMB 109.66 million and will be sent to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The computer system includes 1. Rack System; 2. SKVM; 3. Management Nodes; 4. Login Nodes; 5. High-precision meteorological numerical forecasting system; 6. Gene information processing system; 7. AI & Deep learning Platform System; 8. Simulation Compute Node; 9. Parallel File System; 10. Backup file system; 11. High-end Fault-Tolerant Computer; 12. Infiniband High Speed Network; 13. Gigabit Network; 14. 10 Gigabit Network. The Chinese side will also be sending technical personnel to the Republic of Kazakhstan to carry out installation and commissioning of the equipment, as well as conducting training in operations and maintenance to the extent necessary to ensure the information security of electronic resources to be stored in the installed equipment.
