Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On March 30, 2021, the Chinese Government provided a USD $500,000 (FJD 1 million) grant to the Fiji Government to support cyclone recovery efforts. Tropical cyclones “Yasa” and “Ana” affected Fiji in early 2021, prompting aid donations from the Chinese Government. It is expected that 60% of the grant will be allotted to the Ministry of Education, 20% to the Ministry of Agriculture, and 20% to the Ministry of Fisheries since these three sectors were most affected by the tropical cyclones. This was the second batch of funding from the Chinese government meant to support Fiji's post-hurricane reconstruction work. A handover ceremony was held for this donation. China’s Ambassador Qian Bo handed over emergency aid from the Chinese Government to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama of Fiji.
