Description

In 2021, the Chinese Government funded the construction of an unknown amount of water wells across Zimbabwe, contracted to and implemented by the Chinese corporation Jiangxi International Corporation. These wells are often referred to in Chinese and Zimbabwean reports as the "Chinese Wells". At least 1,000 Chinese-aided wells have been constructed in Zimbabwe since 2012, with the "Chinese Wells" initiative in Zimbabwe ending in 2021. The sites receiving these wells included Esgordini Regional Hospital (completed in July 2021), Rumene Village, Senondo Primary School (completed in August 2021), and 27 wells in Zipingo District (completed in September 2021). In December, China and Zimbabwe held a video conference on the completion and acceptance of the aided well drilling project in Zimbabwe.
