Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On February 16th, 2022, China donated RMB $2,000,000 to Madagascar through the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This donation is intended for the purchase of foodstuffs for the benefit of the population of southern Madagascar as part of food security and assistance to victims of Cyclone Batsirai. The headline also refers to the donation being used to help Malaysia fight droughts. A donation agreement was drawn up and signed by the Chinese Embassy in Madagascar, the Malagasy government and the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC). The BNGRC is the Malagasy entity designated by the State to ensure the management, mobilization and distribution of aid and donations in response to the impacts of natural disasters. This donation from China comes in response to a joint flash appeal to help the Great South, contribute to the priorities of the Malagasy government and support it in the response plan.
