Description
In 2021, a medical team from China arrived in Dominica as part of the China-aided medical service cooperation project in Dominica. The team was comprised of four consultants from the Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangdong, China: cardiologist (Dr. Dexi Wu), urologist (Dr. Hao Zhang), ophthalmologist (Dr. Fan Duan), and oncologist (Dr. Qiaoqiao Li). Three of the doctors were posted in Dominica for a one-year term of service at the China-Dominica Friendship Hospital. Dr. Qiaoqiao Li, the fourth doctor, had been living and working in Dominica for over three years. The team was instrumental in assisting with procurement of medical supplies and equipment. The main objective of the Chinese medical team was to build capacity at major departments in the hospital, with close cooperation with the Dominican Ministry of Health in terms of medical exchange and training. Lin Xianjiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, met the four consultants on December 28, 2021. A farewell ceremony for this team of consultants was held in September 2022. The umbrella project for all phases of the medical team project in Dominica is #73211.
