Description

In the summer of 2021, the China Development Bank (CDB) agreed -- at least in principle -- to provide a $204 million loan to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The purpose of this loan was to purchase COVID-19 vaccines, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceuticals, and PPE. A condition of the loan would have been that 15% of the funds be used to purchase related goods and services from China. The loan would have carried a 2% interest rate. The other borrowing terms are unknown.
