21st Chinese Medical Team Dispatched to Djibouti

Project narrative

On January 8, 2022, the 21st Chinese Medical Team arrived in Djibouti. The team was made up of 12 doctors from Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital and was stationed at General Peltier Hospital. In November 2022, the team held a traditional Chinese medicine training, acupuncture, and massage training. The medical team taught the basic theories and operation methods of acupuncture and massage to the Djiboutian students, as well as providing more advanced training to a group of professionals who have mastered acupuncture and massage techniques. On March 20, 2023 the team received the Independence Day National award for their service from the Prime Minister of Djibouti. On May 20, 2023, the team returned to China. During their time in Djibouti, the medical team provided 14,658 outpatient services, 576 emergency services and completed 1,168 surgeries. In addition, the 21st medical team donated medical supplies to General Peltier Hospital, captured in projects #97595 and #97596. Since 1981, Shanxi Province has sent medical teams to Djibouti as a foreign aid initiative.
