Project narrative

In 2014, the Jining City Government donated a 4 meter tall statue of Confucius to the Gold Coast City Council. The statue stands at the intersection of Davenport and Young streets in the Chinatown precinct in Southport, Queensland. In addition to Jining, the Confucius statue was designed and donated by the China Glory Society, China Confucius Foundation, Shandong Provincial Glory Society, and the Australia Confucius Institute. The statue was unveiled by the Consul-General of the Chinese consulate in Brisbane, Zhao Yongchen, and Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast, on January 23, 2015 as a part of adevelopment of the Chinatown district in Southport.
