On January 9, 2021, Chinese State Councillor and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, and President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for China’s USD $11 million grant to the Seychelles. USD $4.6 million of this fund was allocated for renewable energy projects while USD $155,000 was allocated to the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism. Official disbursement of this monetary grant has yet to be confirmed.
