Project narrative

On March 20, 2015, the Xicheng Municipal Government donated a statue to the Penrith City Council. The 3 meter high statue was a miniature replica of the bronze "Memorial Que" statue erected in Beijing to commemorate the 850th anniversary of the founding of the capital in Beijing. The purpose of the statue was to recognize the Mutual Cooperation Agreement signed between Penrith and Xicheng in 1998. On March 20, 2015, the statue was unveiled at a ceremony by Chinese Consul General to Sydney, Li Huaxin; mayor of Xicheng, Wang Shaofen; Australian Congressman Fiona Scott; mayor of Penrith, Ross Fowler; and other city councillors. The statue stands in a prominent position in the Municipal Council Square. The financial value of the statue is unknown.
