Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2009, the Ma’anshan Municipal Government donated a statue of Chinese poet Li Bai to the Kogarah City Council. The statue is made of steel and weighs 800 kilograms. The purpose of the donation was to present a token of friendship to Kogarah City Council and to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Ma’anshana and Kogarah becoming sister cities. The statue of Li Bai was installed in 2009 in the Ma’anshan Friendship Park in South Hurstville. The financial value of the statue is unknown. This donation was initiated under a broader sister city agreement established between Ma’anshan City and Kogarah City in 2003. The purpose of the agreement was to "exchange and cooperation in science and technology, culture, sports, health, education, and economic and trade relationships."
