Project narrative

In 2010, Sinosteel Midwest donated AUD 5,000 to an Indigenous mentoring program run by the Cooperative Murchison Community Education Initiative (CMCE) in partnership with the Department of Education. The purpose of this donation was to pilot Sinosteel's Resourcing the Region Sponsorship Program. The Indigenous mentoring program, which is jointly funded by three companies (Sinosteel Midwest, Crosslands Resources, and Oakajee Port and Rail), sees Aboriginal employees mentor young Indigenous secondary students throughout the Murchison region so that they may learn about careers in the mining industry. Other donations made to community groups during the pilot included AUD 30,000 to to the Midwest Life Education Program in Resourcing the Region Sponsorship Program (captured via Record ID#97688); AUD 15,000 to support the Rovers Football Club (captured via Record ID#97690); and AUD 1,500 to Foodbank Geraldton (captured via Record ID#97691).
