Project narrative

On March 19, 2020, China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited's Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA) donated 10,000 pairs of medical gloves, 500 protective overalls, and 500 pairs of goggles to the Greek Coast Guard for COVID-19 prevention. Mr. Ioannis Plakiotakis, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, received the donation on behalf of Hellenic Coast Guard, which is overseen by his ministry. The financial value of the donated materials is unknown.

1. In 2016, Chinese state-owned enterprise China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (COSCO) purchased a 51% stake in Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA). In 2021, it acquired another 16% stake, raising its interest to 67%. 2.
