Project narrative

On June 16, 2008, the Shandong Provincial Government donated a bronze statue of Confucius to Waseda University. The statue, located in the university's Okuma Garden, weighs about 1 ton and has a height of 2008 millimeters. It stands on a 500 millimeters tall base made of black marble, and was specially designed and crafted in the Shandong province of China/ On June 16, 2008 the statue was unveiled in a ceremony attended by Chinese President Hu Jintao, Vice Governor of Shandong Province Cai Limin, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Japan Kong Hoonyou, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Unoji. The Confucius statue at Waseda University was the first ever of its kind donated by the Chinese government. The financial value of the statue is unknown.
