Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On May 26, 2014, the National Library of China donated 5,000 e-books to the National Library of Mauritius. One thousand e-books were written in Chinese, while the remaining 4,000 were written in various Western languages. The donation followed a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding between China and Mauritius that made provisions for exchange of information, visits, training, communication, study, and technical expertise between the two countries. It also made provisions for the acquisitions of each other’s portion of catalogue records and experts to establish conservation and exchange programs, and methodological approaches for the digitization of selected materials. The ceremony and donation were attended by a coalition from both countries that included Mr Sun Yigang, the Director of the New Technology Research Centre of the National Library of China. Representing Mauritius were the Mauritian Minister of Arts and Culture, the Mauritian Permanent Secretary, the Chairperson of the National Library Board and the Director of the National Library.
