Project narrative

In April 2020, the Chinese Government donated 8 units of customs control equipment worth USD 31.5 million to Tajikistan. The equipment was provided to contribute to the simplification of customs procedures and a reduction in the time of customs clearance. In November 2019, China pledged to deliver the state-of-the-art equipment to Tajikistan for the inspection of cargo, transport, baggage, goods and people at the customs checkpoints. The Chinese government also pledged to train Tajik customs officers in how to operate the equipment. According to a media source, in exchange, the Government of Tajikistan, for will exempt the delivery of the technology and equipment from payment of the value added tax (VAT) and customs duties.
