Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In April 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Zambia donated K200,000 (approx. $21,000 USD) to the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust. The Foundation, led by First Lady Esther Lungu, provides social services and support to vulnerable women and children in Zambia. The donation was handed over by the wife of Chinese Ambassador Yang Youming. According to a report in the Lusaka Times, the donation faced some public criticism, with Rainbow Party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba calling it a sign of potential corruption. However, the transfer itself was publicly reported and acknowledged.
