In 2018, the Chinese government dispatched the 26th medical team to Mali Hospital. The medical team's purpose was to help manage the COVID-19 crisis in Mali. According to a media source, the 26th medical team departed China shortly after December 18, 2018. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on July 18, 2020, Chinese Ambassador to Mali Zhu Liying visited the team and congratulated their efforts so far. Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mali, the Chinese medical team was meant to complete their aid mission and return home on July 18, 2020. The team agreed to stick to their assignments and assist with pandemic recovery.
