Project narrative

On November 1, 2022, CIDCA pledged 10.6 million liters of diesel fuel to the Government of Sri Lanka. The 10.6 million liter shipment departed Singapore on November 22, 2022, and arrived on November 26, 2022, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. On November 27, 2022, a handover ceremony was held for the shipment of diesel fuel with Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong in attendance. On May 25, 2023, the first phase of the program for providing free petroleum was distributed to the owners of petroleum vessels at the Panadura Fishery Harbour in Sri Lanka. According to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, 2,834 fishing vessels received fuel at the distribution ceremony. The intent of the donation is to support the agricultural and fisheries sectors affected by the economic depression in Sri Lanka. The 10.6 million liters of diesel is provided free of cost to 232,749 farmers for harvesting 342,266 hectares of paddy fields (20 liters per hectare). 3,796 fishing vessels below 40 feet would receive 1,000 liters per vessel. This stock of fuel is given to each farmer through a special voucher online. This donation is a part of CIDCA's large emergency humanitarian package to Sri Lanka committed in May 2022 (Linked to Record ID#98982).
