Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In the fall of 2014, the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) launched a Mandarin Chinese language program for adults. Then, in the fall of 2017, the College launched a similar program for children. Around the same time, the Chinese Embassy in Qatar donated 1,500 copies of the Zhongwen textbook to support the children's language program (#98857). Then, in late 2018, the Chinese Embassy donated a further 3,700 books (#98790). The Chinese Embassy donated a third batch of 3,000 books to the College in January, 2021 (#98858). These donations are related to a general increase in educational cooperation between China and Qatar since at least 2014.
