Project narrative

On June 15, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) held a joint handover ceremony for a donation of about 330,000 sets of medical protective equipment valued USD 800,000. Attending the handover ceremony were Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, the UNPFA Representative to Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Minister of Health, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Chandra Gupta, the Director of the Health Services Bureau, the Chinese Embassy Commercial Counselor Li Guangjun, as well as representatives from the frontlines of medical professionals in Sri Lanka. The purpose of the project is to ensure frontline health workers in Sri Lanka have adequate means to safely respond to patients during public health emergencies such as COVID-19. The donation includes 328,660 packs of supplies.
