Project narrative

The Chinese Scholarship Council pledged to provide Chinese Government Scholarships (Spansish: "la Beca de Gobierno Chino") to 17 Argentinian students to study in China beginning in 2022-23. The Chinese Embassy reported that this program followed a memorandum of understanding between China and Argentina that was signed in February of 2022. They provided three scholarships to the master's degree program (2-3 years), one scholarship to the undergraduate degree program (4-5 years), 12 scholarships to the Chinese Language Program (1 year), and one scholarship to the Senior Scholar Program (1-2 years). Candidates were required to be Argentine Citizens, and pass a health examination. The Chinese Scholarship Council will fund these scholarships, which will provide health insurance, registration costs, tutoring, study material, accommodation on university campus, monthly support, and help for initial installation. The scholarships were announced and applications were opened on October 20, 2022. It was originally announced that 25 scholarships would be awarded. On December 6, 2022, 23 shortlisted candidates were announced. When the scholarship recipients were announced on July 7, 2023, only 17 students were listed.

Staff comments

1. The intent of this project is mixed because some of the scholarships were for Chinese language study.
