Full Description

Project narrative

On August 31, 2019, a 10-foot tall bronze statue of Bernhard Arp Sindberg, a gift to Denmark from the city of Nanjing, was unveiled in a park in Aarhus. The statue was designed by Danish and Chinese artists. The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, the Chinese Ambassador to Denmark at the time, Feng Tie, and other notables. The unveiling ceremony was also meant to represent the beginning of joint cooperation between Aarhus and Nanjing in the cultural, economic, trade, and peacekeeping fields. Bernhard Arp Sindberg harbored Chinese refugees during the Nanking Massacre, saving an estimated 6,000-20,000 people.
