Project narrative

On March 14, 2011, the Chinese Government shipped the first batch of relief supplies to Japan following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. The relief package shipment included 2,000 blankets, 900 cotton tents, and 200 emergency lights. The monetary value of this donation is 7.2 million yuan ($1.1 million USD). The shipment arrived at Tokyo Haneda International Airport on the evening of March 14, 2011. The first second of aid is captured by Record ID#49995. The Tōhoku earthquake took place on March 11, 2011 about 72 km (45 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of the Tōhoku region in Japan. It lasted approximately six minutes, causing a tsunami. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan, and the fourth most powerful earthquake recorded in the world since modern seismography began in 1900. This earthquake prompted assistance from various countries, including China. This donation is one of several from China to Japan following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
