Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 19, 2022, the Chinese Consulate General in Davao and the City Government of Davao jointly launched the Banana Plantation Program for farmers in the Marilog and Paquibato Districts of Davao City. Consul General Li Lin, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, and the Director of the Davao City Agricultural Bureau attended the ceremony. Under this joint program, the Consulate General would provide seedlings, fertilizers and pesticides to 100 local banana farmers identified by the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAO) and Jenson Agriline Corp would provide skill training to farmers on how to scientifically grow bananas and buy back the bananas to ensure farmers' income. The monetary value of donated seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides is unknown. Consul General Li said this project aims to help indigenous families in need of livelihood support. It is estimated to generate about an average of Php 10,000 additional monthly income for each family. Acting City Mayor Sebastian Duterte extended his profound thanks to the Consulate General for the generous donation and continual support to the city, especially in its contribution to the local community's growth. He hoped that this program would boost local food production and uplift the welfare of local farmers in Davao. On May 6, 2022, Consul General Li and consulate officials visited the farmer beneficiaries of the program and helped plant the banana seedlings in Barangay Malamba, Marilog District.
