Project narrative

On July 22, 2011, during a meeting as part of the Wellington Business Delegation's trip to China and Japan, Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong announced that the Beijing Municipal Government would donate 100 bicycles to the Wellington City Council. The bicycles are meant to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the sister city relationship between Beijing and Wellington. The bicycles will be owned by the Council and made available to Wellington organizations and groups for use. The bicycles were formally delivered to Wellington in a ceremony held on October 30, 2011. One of the 100 bicycles was donated by the Wellington City Council to the Embassy of New Zealand in Beijing. The financial value of the donation is unknown.
