Full Description

Project narrative

On November 14, 2007, during the official opening of the Huangshi Chinese Garden in Queens Garden in Nelson, New Zealand, Mayor Kerry Marshall accepted a NZD 13,000 donation from Huangshi Municipal Peoples Congress to help in the completion of the garden. The garden was first commissioned in 2001, symbolizing Nelson's relationship with Huangshi; construction began in 2003 but was progressively staged for funding reasons. The total cost of the garden was NZD 645,000, of which the Nelson City Council contributed NZD 540,000, and the rest was funded by other sources.
