Project narrative

On June 29, 2022, the launching ceremony of the Benin food aid project, which was implemented by the Chinese Government in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme, was held in Aqiaohong City, Weme Province, Benin. Peng Jingtao, China’s Ambassador to Benin, Adua, Representative of the United Nations World Food Programme in Benin, Dangsu, Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Security of Benin, Akpotusu, Governor of Weme, and Zanubo, Mayor of Achohong, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Representatives of Benin's State Civil Security Agency, Dagu, Weimei Province, Aqiaohong City and other beneficiary cities of the project also participated. The food aid project is part of China's support for the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This aid will provide 50,000 poor households in five towns of Benin for 40 days, a total of about 1,070 tons of food. The goal of this aid is to alleviate the living difficulties of residents affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and floods. The monetary value of this donation is unknown.
