Project narrative

In early April 2020, the Chinese city of Hefei donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Spanish city of Lleida to aid their COVID-19 response. Hefei sent the donation to Shanghai for transport in early April. The Spanish Consulate in Shanghai shipped the materials on May 1, 2020, landing in Madrid. The boxes were then transported to Lleida by two military vehicles on May 3, 2020. According to China Daily, the 189 boxes of PPE contained 100,000 masks, 2,000 protective suits, 2,000 isolation gowns, and 2,000 pairs of gloves. According to Catalan News, the amounts were 78,000 masks, 2,240 gowns, and 2,000 gloves. According to a Tianjin Municipal Government report, the amounts were 100,000 surgical masks, 2,000 protective suits, 2,000 isolation gowns, and 4,000 pairs of gloves. Hefei and Lleida have been sister cities since 1998.
