In 2018, Aircraft Strength Research Institute, AVIC— a subsidiary research institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd. (AVIC), a government-owned enterprise—provided between GBP 500,000 and 1,000,000 in funding to Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. The funds were likely used for research purposes. In 2012, Imperial College London and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) established two research centers at Imperial College London to assist AVIC in "developing the next generation of advanced commercial aircraft."
