In 2019, the Beijing Aeronautical Science & Technology Research Institute (BASTRI)— part of state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC)— provided between GBP 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 in funding to Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. The grant was likely used to fund research at the COMAC - Imperial Research Centre for Wing Technology of Commercial Aircraft, a collaboration between Imperial College London and the COMAC Beijing Aircraft Technology Research Institute (BATRI), which opened in 2019. The purpose of the institute is to design innovative aircraft wing design solutions.
