Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On June 23-24 2022, the Tsinghua University China-Africa Leadership Development Institute (CALDI-THU) (in partnership with the HurRain NanoTech team and the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD, formerly China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation)) donated five air-water generators to primary schools in Southern Ethiopia. The schools included Key Afer, Tulungo, Sitimba, Turmi and Demeka primary schools, and will provide water for 2,106 students. CALDI-THU, which led the project, designed the generators to be effective in the Ethiopian climate. The donation was made to provide clean drinking water for schools in response to a drought and civil conflict in the area. Former Ethiopian first lady Roman Tesfaye Abneh, South Omo Zone Education Department Head Weli Haile, Key Afer District administrator Muda Wacho, and CFRD Ethiopian Office Director Huang Xiaocen attended the donation ceremony.

Staff comments

1. The articles list the region of distribution as the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's Region of Ethiopia. However, in August of 2023, the SNNPR dissolved and its former territory is now part of the South Ethiopia Regional State and the Central Ethiopia Regional State. 2. The monetary value of this donation, and the segment of this donation made by CALDI-THU, is unknown.
