Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 9, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and Addis Ababa University signed an agreement to fund the China-Ethiopia Friendship Scholarship {also known as the Ethio-China Friendship Scholarship) for students at Addis Ababa University (AAU). The full funding amounted to 2.19 million Birr, which will help to support the education of 117 students at AAU. This scholarship program began approximately 5 years before this agreement was made. Its purpose is to support students in Ethiopia, especially those who are financially disadvantaged, who will contribute to the technological and economic development of the country. On March 7, 2023, a ceremony was held to honor the students who received financial support. Out of the 117 students, 80 were in the bachelor's program, 18 in the Chinese Language, 12 at the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAIT), and one at the Institute of Peace and Security Studies (IPSS).
