Project narrative

On December 2, 2022, a handover ceremony was held at the Chinese Embassy in the Federated States of Micronesia for China's aid funds to construct the "China-FSM Friendship" multi-purpose sports stadium in Satawan Island, Chuuk State. Chinese Ambassador to the FSM Huang Zheng and Satawan Municipal Government Liaison Officer Anson signed the aid handover certificate on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and Satawan Municipal Government respectively. FSM Congress Speaker Wesley Simina, Foreign Minister Kasio Mida, and others attended the handover ceremony. Ambassador Huang and the vise president of the FSM Ansin signed documents for China to provide $190,000 from the embassy's discretionary fund to construct a gymnasium on Satowan Atoll in Chuuk State, continuing China's support for infrastructure projects in the FSM. After completion, the stadium will be used to host official, festive, public welfare and cultural/sports events in the Mortlocks and Satawan, playing an important role in meeting local people's urgent needs and driving economic and social development in the region and Chuuk State.
