Project narrative

In 2000, the Taishan City Municipal Government donated 56,000 tiles and the services of four tradesmen to the Ararat City Council to complete the roof of the Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre in Ararat. The tiles were estimated to be worth $400,000 AUD. The Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre tells the story of Chinese miners that travelled by sea to Australia in the nineteenth century.
